A message from our CEO

An Update from Our CEO, Susan O’Dwyer

In these challenging times as we all navigate through uncertainty for ourselves, our loved ones and our community, we hope you are staying healthy and safe.

At Make-A-Wish® Ireland delivering hope, strength and joy is central to everything that we do. More than ever, we are committed to delivering magical, life-changing wishes to children living with serious illnesses. However, the safety and wellbeing of our wish families, volunteers, staff, board and donors is our absolute priority.

Considering current medical and government advice, we wanted to update you on the steps we are taking to ensure the health and safety of all Make-A-Wish children and their families, as well that of our stakeholders. As a community we must do our best to contain and delay the spread of Covid-19 and so, over the next few weeks, we will be taking precautionary measures to help prevent further spread of this virus. At all times our decisions are based on ensuring the health and safety of our wish children and their families. As a result, we have made the difficult decision to postpone all wish travel as well as all wishes that involve gatherings of any kind until further notice. We are working to identify new ways to enrich each child’s ‘wish journey’ and will keep you all informed on progress.

The cancellation or postponement of some of our largest fundraising events for 2020 has meant our fundraising income is under threat. To counter this, we are identifying new methods of fundraising where we will aim to keep our corporate and private supporters engaged. We also want to ensure you understand how appreciative we are of your continued support, and how essential your donations still are to Make-A-Wish. Let us assure you, once the risk of Covid-19 has been mitigated we will be working hard to ensure all postponed wishes are granted in as short a time frame as possible.

To this end, we have put in place procedures to allow our staff to work from home and continue to respond to all phone or email related questions or concerns daily.

On behalf of the children and families we serve, thank you for your support. Together, we can give the brightest of days to children who are fighting life-threatening illnesses.

We sincerely hope that you and your families stay safe and healthy over the coming weeks. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact one of the team.
