Community Bike Rides

This summer, Make-A-Wish Ireland are joining forces with Community Bike Rides to promote the Wheels for Wishes campaign.

The challenge is to cycle 250km during the month of July and to collect sponsorship on your fundraising page from family and friends.  All funds raised will go to Make-A-Wish Ireland to help with the granting of life-changing wishes to children who are living with life-threatening illnesses. Anyone who raises over €250 will receive their very own Wheels for Wishes medal.

What’s slightly different about this campaign is that it’s not limited to the bike, you can also take part on any set of wheels, whether this be a wheelchair, roller blades, or a scooter!

Speaking on the campaign, Jason Goodison, Community Bike Rides Officer says,

"Community Bike Rides are delighted to support Make-A-Wish Ireland with the Wheels for Wishes campaign this July. This campaign will promote social & leisure cycling and present an enjoyable challenge to Community Bike Rides Members & Leaders, all while attempting to raise funds to help Make-A-Wish with the fantastic work that they do."

Community Bike Rides provides an opportunity for individuals to take part in healthy, social and safe group rides with a trained Ride Leader or choose to take on a solo bike ride of their choice. Community Bike Rides are free and easy to join. This island wide initiative is accessible to adults 18yrs+ of all cycling experience. Those taking on the Wheels for Wishes challenge are welcome to join Community Bike Rides and complete the distance with other cyclists in their local community on group rides. All funds raised through the campaign will help provide hope, strength, and joy for many children and their families. Make-A-Wish Ireland have granted over 2,950 wishes to children living with life threatening illnesses, and this year there has been a 60% increase in wish applications so support this year is more important than ever.

Susan O'Dwyer, CEO of Make-A-Wish Ireland, adds,

"We're very grateful for Community Bike Rides to come on board and support Wheels for Wishes this year. It is wonderful that they will be encouraging their community of cyclists to take part in the campaign to make a difference in the lives of seriously ill children and their families.”
