Make-A-Wish® worldwide will celebrate a global day of wish granting today on April 29th. World Wish Day is designed to inspire people all over the world to share the power of a wish and the difference it makes to an entire family. To support awareness of the World Wish Day campaign many celebrated Irish people will share with the nation their nostalgic childhood wishes over the coming days. These childhood wishes have been sent to Make-A-Wish from well known people from all areas of Irish life from sport to music and business to media to raise awareness of the power of a wish.  Shane Horgan said; When I was a child my wish changed pretty much with the seasons. From running in the Olympics or Piloting a Spaceshuttle to playing football for Meath in Croke Park or playing a sold out rock concert in Slane !  There were many many more also. Some for a few months but most lasted for a few days or hours. Excited by the new idea it would receive my full attention until the next one came along. One constant in all my wishes was that I would enjoy the journey trying to make the wishes come true. The vast majority came to nothing but I enjoyed chasing them. I have been extremely fortunate that in being picked to represent Ireland in Rugby one wish that I chased came about. I had (and still have!) great fun making and chasing ones that remain just wishes.”  Gordon Darcy’s childhood wish was: “When I was young I wanted so badly to be a fighter pilot, just like in top-gun. I had it all planned out, as mum had said she had lived in America I thought she could make it happen just like that.. I used to draw the planes I wanted to fly, I made my parents but me a magazine called airplane every month. I only wanted to fly from an aircraft carrier. I use to lie awake at night thinking about how cool it would be to be that pilot, and I even had my pilot name picked out. When I think about it, it still brings a smile to my face about how happy I was and how convinced I was that I would be a pilot...” Every 25 minutes, the Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wish of a child with a life-threatening medical condition around the world. That’s more than 20,000 wishes every year. Over 240,000 wishes have been granted since 1980. In Ireland over 170 wishes will be granted this year and this solely depends on the amazing generosity of the Irish people. To support World Wish Day and donate to Make-A-Wish Ireland: Donate online http://www.makeawish.ie/iopen24/donations.phpOr Donate at your local Bank of Ireland, Account Number 81894009,Sort Code 90-00-84 Check out the childhood wishes of well known Irish people by visitingFace book link is http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/Make-A-Wish-Ireland/17038130294?ref=tshttp://twitter.com/Makeawishire In addition a global online forum www.worldwishday.org has been launched to celebrate 2010 the launch year of World Wish Day when the foundation celebrates their 30th anniversary.  For further information and more wishes please contact Sinead Christian PR and Marketing Manager Make-A-Wish sinead@makeawish.ie 01 2052007/0879029523 ends.
