A huge thanks to all involved!
The Make-A-Wish Foundation was thrilled to be the charity of choice for the second year running for the Annual Across Ireland Motorcycle run. Now in its 9th year this event has truly gathered momentum with a record number of Motorcyclists participating in August of this year. Last year’s event alone raised €143, 700 for the charity and enabled us to grant an incredible 18 wishes and fund a new member of staff.
As we receive no Government funding a fundraising event of this magnitude is an invaluable resource to us and we are extremely grateful for the hard work Nicky Carvin and his fantastic crew/committee injected into this event. From all at Make-A-Wish we would like to thank-you most sincerely for your efforts and also send a special thank-you to the extended support arm, including sponsors, marshals, supporters on the day and the Garda Traffic Corp.
Thanks also to everyone who helped create such a fantastic atmostphere in both Dublin and Galway, from our fantastic face painters www.sarahvarela.com to our fabulous balloon shaping 'Shortly the Clown' (0864001437), who all donated their time and services. The event of course would not have been possible without the hundreds of participants who gave so freely of their time, at their own expense, and also enlisted sponsorship to make this fundraising event an even bigger success than last year. Is that possible?! Watch this space as this year’s fundraising total will be revealed soon.
Despite the stringent road safety procedure the Annual Across Ireland carries, the event suffered a fatality to one of its participants this year. Everybody was deeply shocked and saddened by the incidence and the Make-A-Wish Foundation would like to extend their deepest sympathy to the friends and family of the deceased.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation recognises how much work goes into organising an event of this sheer size. The attention to detail on all aspects was brilliant. We look forward to announcing soon the total amount this year’s event raised to help us continue in our mission to grant wishes to children with serious or life-threatening illnesses.
